What is Pushing Hands?
Pushing Hands is a two-person tai chi practice that helps us develop sensitivity, balance, and a deeper understanding of the energetic forces we both exert in the world and receive from it.
Unlike learning the form, there's no long sequence to memorise. Instead, there are some core principles — yielding, rootedness, listening through touch, connecting using the mind — and then it's about putting those principles into action in partnership with another person.
Nicci and Tim's approach to Pushing Hands emphasises quietening the mind and building sensitivity. For experienced students we will explore uprooting and non-contact forms of the practice.
The workshop will be shaped around whoever attends, so complete beginners are very welcome. There will also be plenty of opportunity for those with more experience to work together and deepen their practice.
