Spontaneous sound is the sound of the energy in your channels. What happens when you are sad, and you cry? That is the sound of the energy in your channels coming out. It’s the same when you laugh. Or, when you are angry, you say ‘Grrrr’. When you feel passionate about something, this is the feeling in your channels being expressed in the way that you let it out.
Spontaneous sounds can also be expressed as our vital energy (yuan qi) meets our blocks or knots in our body and energy. As such, they form a vital part of our self-healing process. There are often very common sounds that help release problems in particular organs, in the same way that we share emotional expressions. In Taiji the spontaneous sounds can also be part of our martial practice as we learn to direct our energy skilfully and reflexively. "
One of the main benefits of Taijiwuxigong practice is to improve health: physical pains disappear, people feel more relaxed and happier. The Taijiwuxigong system places a strong emphasis on clearing out energies that are stuck or unhelpful to mental or physical wellbeing.
Andy clarified this aspect, “Energy disturbances can lead to physical problems if they are not brought out or balanced. All emotions create an energetic reaction, which if unexpressed, can, in turn, lead to physical disturbances. Our distracted thoughts can generate emotional processes, which if held in the body, lead to physical problems.
These are negated when we release the Binqi (unhealthy energy) we have accumulated. As we do this, we have the possibility to discover our empty state. When we find our empty state, we have a chance not to follow the usual patterns that lead to our problems developing again.
However, if we have had strong thoughts and emotions over a length of time, or repeatedly, it becomes something like a solid experience in our energy and our body.
With a practice of sound, formal or spontaneous, we can use the sound to bring activity and movement to these stuck or solid experiences within ourselves.
This can be done with many sounds, but if you get a chance to study with a teacher from this tradition, then there are specific practises with certain sounds and ways to apply the mind that can work with this process and achieve self-healing very effectively.
If you want to feel this for yourself, I have found a great practise is to make sounds while in the bath. If its ok for you to put your ears beneath the water, then it becomes very easy to make sound and feel its vibration in different parts of your body. It can be very convenient to practise this under water as it helps to magnify the effect of the sound to your senses and helps to give a greater clarity in how you feel and locate the sound and its effect.
You should also remember pay respect to your neighbours and house mates and not be too noisy at inconvenient times :-)
